Subtitled as "The Ambient/Atmospheric/Soundtrack Sample CD", which is a pretty accurate description of the contents of this CD, though if your not into these areas of music production then don't click away yet !, there is a lot of material here for almost any sort of music.

The CD has been put together by Ian Boddy, one of the UK's foremost electronic musicians, I wouldn't place him strictly in just the analogue bracket, his music has more appeal than this. Think Tangerine Dream 1980-1985, and your about there. Click here to check Ian Boddy's catalogue at CD Now

There is no kit list presented but there must be a pretty serious sonic arsenal on display here, there are a few hints, PPG, VCS 3 & Roland 100M are name checked, and the cover states that it's all analogue so who are we to doubt this, sounds authentic enough to my ears, though some of the names given to sounds include "FM" which one presumes is short for frequency modulation, digital unless I'm mistaken, not to worry. Additionally there are some percussive sounds here as well, though again there is no source indicated.

The card inlay, admirably lists every track and every sound on them and gives each a unique name and a category, plus points for detail here. The sounds though are laid out seemingly semi randomly, whilst within a track there is usually some consistency the categories are laid out all over, Synth FX for example appear on tracks 4, 8, 11, 12,13, 15, 40, 42, 43, 44, 54, 56, 59, 62, 74-78, 80, 81, 83, 86-88, 96 & 97 - you get the idea ! Some of the categories are open to some debate I'd suggest, but at least the effort has been made which is to be applauded.

There are 16 sound categories are Ambient, Ambient FX, Atmosphere, Ethnic Drums, Exotic Percussion, FX, Percussion, Percussion FX, Synth Atmospheres, Synth Bell, Synth FX, Synth Percussion, Synth Rhythm, Thumb Piano, Waveform & Whistles. Interestingly there are only 4 samples listed as "Ambient" - odd considering the collections title ! Most of the samples are in mono, those that are in stereo are listed as such on the track listing with a (s).
